Lizzy Smeaton-Russel
ICN Humanitarian Liaison Officer
Lizzy is a senior NMC registered paediatric nurse with experience in neonatal intensive care (NICU), paediatric intensive care (PICU), and emergency room (ER) settings. Currently Lizzy is proud to be working as Humanitarian Liaison officer at the ICN.
Lizzy has been working in the humanitarian field since 2016 when she first started working in the refugee crisis across southern Europe. Since then, Lizzy has gained experience in delivering nursing care in various humanitarian settings across South Sudan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Ivory Coast, the Dominican Republic and Rwanda.
Lizzy holds an MSc in Paediatric Nursing from King’s College London, a Diploma in Tropical Nursing from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and an MA in Arabic and Spanish from the University of Edinburgh.
In her most recent role with MSF, Lizzy worked within the Brussels HQ medical department to enhance neonatal care and build capacity among nurses through training. She delivered two courses for nurses across 13 countries in three languages.
Between her missions abroad, Lizzy has been a nurse at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) since 2015 where she loves caring for children and neonates in NICU and PICU.
