Nina Sivertsen

Dr. Nina Sivertsen is an Indigenous Sámi woman living and working on Kaurna Lands in Australia. She is a Senior Lecturer (Nursing) at Flinders University and an Associate Professor at the Arctic University of Norway. Her academic work focuses on curriculum design and cultural responsiveness to engage students in learning about First Nations health. Her research emphasizes community and health systems in partnership with First Peoples, contributing to restorative policy and practice, particularly women's health in the context of assimilation and colonization. She collaborates with First Nations health professionals globally to improve healthcare outcomes for all First Nations people. Nina's work on Indigenous women's identities, culture, health, and education has garnered international recognition, with partnerships in Norway, Canada, and Australia. She has received several awards, including the 2022 Flinders Reconciliation Award, 2021 Women in Innovation Award, and the 2020 Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Innovation in Teaching, and was a finalist for the 2021 AFR National Teaching Excellence Awards. Dr. Sivertsen actively participates in community organizations and academic committees, advocating for Indigenous voices in strategic planning, governance, and curriculum.
